Saetde (Grandvalira’s managing company) is always beating for innovation, and that’s why they asked us to renovate the access to pistes at the Pas de la Casa ski area, at the Grandvalira ski resort. This space is where the tickets windows are located. Visitors can buy passes for the day and for the whole season. There is also a desk for the ski and snowboard school, and also another one for information.
The amount of people walking in the place every day made it look like an underground station. The place was dark and it was not the best welcome presentation. In the layout of the space, something that fail, apart from the aesthetic side, was the acoustics. The space was just built in concrete, and the sound of people speaking and walking on ski boots was a big problem.
The premise, apart from solving the layout and operational aspects, was to get acoustic comfort but at the same time a warm and cozy space, where visitors had the best possible first impression.
Inspired on the mountains surrounding the building, we created a second skin for the ceiling, representing through warm colors the orography of the area, simulating the light of the sun at sunset time, shining its shadows over the mountainside. These elements are acoustic panels, that made of polyurethane and fabric, help to absorb the sound generated underneath.
On the other side, the floor represents a cloudy ski, with different tones on the carpet. This way, the landscape is represented upside down trying to make the user dream with what is outside.
