This November will bring a lot of news and trips. We are very pleased to announce that for their debut at the Downtown Design Fair, ICEX Spain Trade & Investment have trusted Stone Designs and our partner Narita to develop a creative concept that will spotlight the artistry and uniqueness of each brand ‘made in Spain‘.
Spain’s participation in this year’s fair (12-15 November) is part of a growing interest from country-specific initiatives looking to promote their design industries in the Middle East, as well as highlighting some of the world’s most important and recognised creatives. In turn, the fair is held within the “Dubai Design Week” which takes place at the d3 Waterfront terrace, Dubai Design District, Dubai, UAE.
Downtown Design 2019 will feature some of the world’s most coveted contemporary international and regional design brands, the region’s most innovative studios, the Middle East’s leading design houses and a list of the best designers on the international scene.
We will showcase some of the most iconic and innovative brands from the country, demonstrating the diversity of Spanish design to the Middle East. From contemporary brands such as Kettal and Cosentino, to those built on centuries of tradition like Lladró.
A gateway to international recognition and a window to improve relations with Middle Eastern trade. Last year, Italy, Poland and Portugal were the leading countries exhibiting in the main pavilions. This year, thanks to ICEX Spain Trade & Investment, Spain will join France and Malaysia to help designers and brands gain a competitive advantage in a rapidly evolving regional market.
An exciting challenge where we will take the opportunity of showcasing the quality of our country’s design and position Spain as a leading supplier of innovative products and solutions for architects, interior designers and real estate developers in the Middle East.
Titled ‘Life Experts’, the showcase will celebrate the Spanish people’s love for life and beauty as seen through the lens of contemporary design. In addition to well-known labels, brands such as artisanal rugs and textile makers Nanimarquina and Naturtex, RS Barcelona which is coveted for their playful pieces and contemporary lighting studio MYO will highlight the values behind the ‘Made in Spain’ label.
Many of the brands that will exhibit at Downtown Design already have a strong presence in the Middle East, and a few are new to the region. Our objective is to support all of them through a strong country image and develop a long-lasting relation with the region.
Building it into a brand that stands out is the ultimate goal.
In addition, our founder Cutu Mazuelos will participate on November 13 from 18:00 to 19:00 in the talk “How to build a brand“. Together with other speakers and global experts from a wide cross-section of the design industry such as Alessandro Minotti (Minotti), Dara Huang (DH Liberty) or Joakim De Rham (Swiss Bureau Interior Design) will share our secrets to building design brands and practices that have staying power.
A unique opportunity “made in Spain”
Construction in the area is currently focused on EXPO 2020, the first universal exhibition of an Arab country and the Middle East region (More than 20 million visitors are expected – 70% of them foreigners). Other infrastructure projects in progress include the new Al Maktoum airport and the extension of the Dubai Metro. Also by 2020, the 1000 m. high Dubai Creek Tower will be completed, a building that will surpass the highest in the world, Burj Khalifa (828 m.), also in Dubai. All these works, including hotel and real estate construction and remodeling, require innovative equipment and products with a high level of design.
