Offices of the Future: office and workspace design

This week we participated in the sixth edition of “Offices of the Future“, a reference event in Madrid organized by Grupo Vía. A day to analyse the transformation that office spaces are undergoing, focusing, above all, on the people who carry out the projects, the radical change due to the advance of technology and the consolidated trend of the coworking sector.

Excellent success stories of new offices and workspaces, where more than a hundred professionals participated and we were able to show the case studies and projects designed by Stone Designs as well as other industry leaders: MonochromeBODSavills Aguirre NewmanStudio Banana and Tétris.

It was a pleasure to show you the interesting work we have done, and above all, the philosophy behind it. A short but very productive morning among colleagues, where you could see projects, inspiring strategies, trends in design and new workspaces.

“Any change management project has to start with people in mind and end with people in mind.”

The different topics discussed: The keys to reinventing workspaces by placing people at the centre, the rise of co-working, the importance of generating spaces for co-creation and talent retention, the need to activate buildings technologically and update the office park, adaptation and interactivity in the face of technological advances, the quest for employee well-being and comfort, as well as world trends in office design.

Our designer Eva Prego, co-founder of Stone Designs with Cutu Mazuelos, exhibited three of our recent office works. So, we exhibited:

– The new offices for The Story Lab, a four-storey building where we take advantage of the strong personality of this company that creates content for the internet. We gave the spaces a powerful concept inspired by Warhol, Basquiat, Velvet Underground, the NY subway or Nell’s Night Club.

– The offices for Teads.tv (a floor plan that links its design to the golden age of the 1950s, reflected in the use of wood, colours, fabrics and furniture).

– The common areas of Coca-Cola’s headquarters in Madrid (a clear commitment to transmit a Mediterranean concept, using the brand’s red colour only to emphasise, providing the dining room spaces with a continuous and mixed use, breaking the concept of reception as a barrier and playing with the incorporation of technology and multimedia elements).

Case studies office design

Among the speakers, Álvaro Fernández, Director of Projects (Monochrome), explained how his work focuses on the change and flexibility demanded by the new reality of work (flexibility of spaces, collaboration between departments and interrelation with like-minded people). The spaces must promote the user experience and a balance must be found between large open spaces and small ones, making everything work as an autonomous package but integrated into the whole.

From BODJavier Bartolomé analysed how to overcome the disconnection between buildings and citizens. Technology is the solution for turning buildings into active objects, betting on interactive multimedia screens considering “information as the new marble“.

In the last debate of “Offices of the Future“, the main requests from clients when transforming office spaces, the hybridization of spaces and the commitment to generate work spaces in different areas such as hotels or shopping centres were analysed; the importance of workshops and previous research work on the needs of clients and users, the role of biophilia in increasingly technological environments, as well as the challenge of achieving projects that know how to promote the local in a global context.
